Havnsø – the harbour in the centre

Even if a harbour cannot be called a tourist attraction; then all activities in Havnsø Harbour act as a magnet both locally and for tourists in the area, harbour master Michael Høy says.
Havnsø Harbour is a 'real harbour' providing exciting things to look at. Here are 250 local yachts in addition to the many visiting sailors who come every summer. So there is always a boat bound for its place in the stake rows - or out into the bay in the process of stretching its sails.

Both island ferries are also an entertaining feature, a vast "tuuut" whistles into the ferry berth, so that people, cars, cows, combine harvesters and other goods may come ashore.
At the centre pier is a small fleet of fine old wooden boats, also worth a visit, but you should also go for a walk on the outer pier and enjoy the view over the bay to islands Nekselø, Sejerø and east to the hills ‘Bakkerne’ and Vejrhøj.
On a clear day you can see all the way to the tip of Zealands Odde.

The harbour has Blue flags, in the summer holiday a Blue Flag station is here with pleasant activities for children. Among other things a crab fishing area from the pier, a noble and an exciting sport for courageous children.

Inside the harbour is the harbour’s small shipyard and slipway, and here is almost always something to watch. If you are you lucky, there is a ship on its way up the slipway - perhaps it is a ship having a big repair job done. The work is carried out using the best ship carpenter traditions; here wax, oakum and tar are part of everyday life.

Unfortunately, local fishing boats are a thing of the past; but sometimes a ship visits the harbour from another area. Or you might be lucky and see a boat puffing towards the shore full of flatfish.
If the view across the sea gives you ‘the urge to travel’, it's easy to jump on one of the ferries and visit the islands Nekselø or Sejerø right there in the bay.
Havnsø Harbour has its charm, because it has arisen gradually.
The harbour was only a small fishing place early in the last century, later on, the first pier and a sheltering pier emerged, where among other things the ferry to Sejerø docked - today it is the harbour’s westerly pier.
After these, piers, ferry berths and marina have surfaced.
The last proliferation is from the late 1990s, where the ferry to Sejerø was replaced and had a new ferry berth outside the original harbour.

Go on an outing to the islands

From Havnsø the ferries go to Nekselø and Sejerø. Enjoy a day or 2 on one of the islands - here you can get away from everyday life.

The Inn was erected in the early 1800s. There was recently a fire in the inn and public lounge, which for this reason have been 'involuntarily' modernized.
