Energy Cluster Centre Zealand
- Efficient development and co-ordination of new sustainable energy systems across Region Zealand

Energy Cluster Centre Zealand
In collaboration with Region Zealand and the municipalities of Roskilde and Lolland, Kalundborg Municipality is now establishing a centre for climate-friendly energy technology. The Centre will co-ordinate new development processes and ensure that the knowledge acquired by each of the Municipalities is exploited to the full throughout the region.

The idea of establishing Energy Cluster Centre Zealand came up after Growth Forum Zealand in 2007 mapped the potential for the region's municipalities to create new jobs and boost exports. They found, among other things, a number of special competencies and facilities in the field of energy which together had considerable development potential:
- Roskilde Municipality had substantial knowledge resources and research facilities at Roskilde University (RUC) and RISØ
- Lolland had numerous climate and energy projects on the go
- In Kalundborg Municipality, the world's largest industrial symbiosis was in operation
Centre with multiple roles
To achieve major synergies and broad-based knowledge sharing in the area, the three municipalities in Region Zealand decided to establish a joint co-ordination and information hub. Energy Cluster Centre Zealand.

The Centre's brief includes co-ordinating, initiating and implementing local and regional climate initiatives. It will serve as a dynamic development environment, where the energy cluster's players can meet to exchange knowledge and experience. The Centre will also play a vital role in relation to fundraising, promotion of the energy cluster's results and close dialogue with other authorities.

"Energy Cluster Centre Zealand will be the focal point of the region's energy collaboration, which will require extensive central co-ordination. One example of this could be if we decide to conceptualise Kalundborg's industrial symbiosis so that other towns and cities can more easily build their own symbioses. Or if we want to communicate our experiences with ESCO projects regarding the production of bioethanol. In such case, the Centre will provide project management, meeting co-ordination and communications to all relevant stakeholders," says Kalundborg Municipality executive Claus Steen Madsen.

Symbiosis!

- how and what?

Town, country and industry
Under Energy Cluster Centre Zealand rank three local energy centres, one in each municipality. Lolland's municipal energy centre manages development schemes which focus on climate-friendly energy production in agricultural areas. Roskilde's energy centre takes care of urban-oriented schemes, while Kalundborg's deals with all industrial schemes.
